Printing an 800% Dummy 13 Model with Sovol SV08 Max: A Full-Scale 3D Adventure

Bringing Dummy 13 to Life in Full Scale

Have you ever wanted to create a life-sized action figure straight out of an anime? We did exactly that. In this project, we scaled the ever-popular Dummy 13 model up to a jaw-dropping 800%, reaching a height of 110 cm (about the size of a 5-year-old child), and printed it using the  Sovol SV08 Max  3D printer.

Why Dummy 13? This model ranks fifth in total downloads on Printables.com and is known for its flexible poseability and popularity in YouTube stop-motion animations. It’s an icon—and it deserves to be BIG.

Why Sovol SV08 Max?

Most printers would require 20 plates to handle a 180mm Dummy 13. But with the Sovol SV08 Max’s huge build volume, we printed the full 800% scale Dummy 13 in just 4 plates. Here’s what made it possible:

  • Massive Build Volume: Perfect for oversized models.
  • Auto Filament Feeding: Insert, tap, done.
  • Easy Assembly: If you've built an SV08 before, the Max version is even faster to set up—just 1.5 hours.

Unboxing the SV08 Max is an experience in itself—it’s massive. You might need two people (and maybe a forklift) to move it.

The Print: 60 Hours of Giant-Scale Detail

To bring Dummy 13 to life, we used:

  • 2 rolls of black PLA
  • 2 rolls of orange PLA
  • Total print time: ~2.5 days (60 hours)

Sure, that sounds long. But compared to cutting the model into 20 pieces and restarting your printer over and over, it’s a huge time-saver.

Support Removal: Time to Flex Those Fingers

Taking off the support material was like going into full dental surgery mode. Each part required careful clipping with pliers. Some joints were so tight, even dental tools couldn’t help. At one point, it felt like we were doing CrossFit with cutters.

  • Took over 40 minutes just to remove support
  • Hand cramps were real
  • But totally worth it

Assembly: Mecha Anime Fantasy Meets 3D Reality

Assembling the Dummy 13 felt like building a real mech suit. Here’s what went down:

  • Hammer vs. Hand: Some parts clicked in effortlessly, others needed serious persuasion.
  • Heat Gun Would Help: Didn’t have one—relied on a hammer and luck.
  • Fit & Friction: Joints were tight due to printing tolerances, so some pieces required a 45° angle plus body weight to insert.

Despite the chaos, every piece eventually found its place. The arms, legs, and head all snapped (or smashed) in.

Final Result: Heavy, Sturdy, and Badass

Our full-scale Dummy 13:

  • Stands tall at 110 cm
  • Feels like solid armor with high infill
  • Survives drops and hammer hits (yes, we tested)
  • Looks awesome even with minor joint imperfections

This was our first life-size print on the SV08 Max, and it won’t be the last. The sense of accomplishment is huge—literally.

Conclusion: Sovol Max Is Built for Big Dreams

If you’re ready to step beyond standard prints and create massive, detailed models with fewer interruptions and cleaner results, the Sovol SV08 Max is your machine.

This print was more than just a project—it was a statement.

Bigger is better. Sovol makes it possible.
