Conventional multi-color printers typically process every filament through the same nozzle, requiring repeated unloading, reloading, reheating, and purging whenever the color or material changes. This adds waiting time, creates purge waste, and increases the risk of color or material contamination.
M1D takes a fundamentally different approach. Its DualX™ IDEX architecture combines one independent fixed toolhead with six interchangeable toolheads, allowing different colors and materials to remain loaded in dedicated toolheads and preheat independently. The fixed toolhead can handle support material or the most frequently used color, further reducing unnecessary tool changes, while each toolhead swap can be completed in as little as 5 seconds.
The result is faster and more efficient printing with up to seven colors or materials, near-zero purge waste, cleaner material separation, and greater flexibility for complex multi-color, multi-material, and soluble-support prints. M1D also supports Copy and Mirror modes for true parallel production—an advantage conventional single-nozzle multi-color systems cannot provide.
